0005901316-01-1.jpg Thomas L. Simon, formerly of Perryopolis, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2010, at his Monongahela riverfront home that he and his devoted wife of 54 years built together. He was born June 6, 1933, in Monessen to the late George and Elizabeth Simon.

Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a hard worker and excellent provider for his family.

He is survived by his wife Connie and their five children: Tom, Mary, George, Rachel and Chad.

He was a Korean War veteran having served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Tom attained many achievements and climbed the ladder of success due to his dedication and passion for his work and all those that he has served. He started his life-long commitment of helping others with his employment with the United States Steel Corporation. Tom was an elected Trustee and served as Chairman of both the grievance and legislative committees, President of Local 3403 and then District 10 Staff Representative for the U.S.W.A. Tom also served as Employee Advisor for the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, on the Wage Policy Committee and helped process benefit claims for Wheeling Pittsburgh bankruptcy cases. Tom ended his life-long commitment to helping others with a Governor-appointed four year term as Chairman of the Unemployment Compensation Review Board for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Tom was a volunteer fireman for the City of Monessen in the 1950’s, he also belonged to numerous social clubs. Tom enjoyed vacationing with his family, he was an avid boater, fisherman and hunter.

He will be sadly missed by his loved ones and all who he has helped.

The family extends their gratitude to the nurses, aides, and social workers of Heartland Hospice and to Cindy Morris, Tom’s personal caregiver.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests no flowers be sent, all the family is asking that you keep them in your prayers.
