Man injured on barge in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE – An unidentified man suffered injuries while working on a barge in Brownsville this morning. Officials from Fayette County 911 said the incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. at Brownsville Marine Products.

Emergency personnel from Brownsville EMS joined volunteer firefighters from North and South Brownsville and Hiller at the scene.

It was not clear how the man was injured or the extent of his injuries, but he was briefly trapped on the barge before rescue personnel could extricate him.

He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Brownsville Marine is a barge construction company located on the Monongahela River.

Officials from Brownsville Marine did not return calls for comment regarding the accident.
