Police investigating Tuesday burglary on Stockton Avenue
Uniontown police are investigating a burglary that occurred Tuesday night at a home in Uniontown. Officer Chuck David said the burglary occurred at the home of Paul Bortz Sr. at 117 Stockton Ave.
David said that the burglars gained access to a detached garage at the residence sometime after Bortz and his wife, Vickie, had retired for the evening.
According to K-9 Officer Michael C. Garrow Sr., the couple believes the burglary occurred between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Among items stolen from the garage were a large flat-screen television, two IPods, tools, stereo equipment, a lawn trimmer, a grill kit, other electronic devices and numerous bottles of alcohol, Garrow said.
Police did not have an estimate on the total value of the items stolen from the garage.
David said that investigators believe that at least two people were involved in the heist. He noted that the garage was unlocked when the burglary occurred.
Garrow and Detective Donald M. Gmitter processed the garage for physical evidence and fingerprints Wednesday afternoon.
Bortz is the former mayor of Uniontown and now serves on the Uniontown Area School Board.
Anyone with information regarding the burglary is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
