CARMICHAELS – A Spraggs man will stand trial for allegedly firing a gun at two people and wounding one of them during an incident in Greene County earlier this month. State police said Ricky Ray Raber, 45, was charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.

Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson held all charges against Raber for Greene County Court following a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon.

According to Trooper Mark A. Schmelzlen, the shooting occurred between 6 and 6:45 a.m. July 5 on Blacksville Hill in Wayne Township.

Schmelzlen said Randy L. Yoders Jr., 20, of Spraggs and a 14-year-old boy from Fairview, W.Va., reported they were sitting in a vehicle at the intersection of Sigbee Street, Schley Street and Funston Avenue when a bullet hit the vehicle.

The bullet, according to police, struck Yoders in the lower right shoulder.

Schmelzlen said Yoders suffered a collapsed lung and was taken by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment.

The 14-year-old was not injured, police said.

Police have not said why Raber allegedly fired the weapon at Yoders and the teen.

Raber remains in Greene County Prison on a $150,000 straight cash bond awaiting his court date.
