Rohanna qualifies

Rachel Rohanna made it 1-for-2 in qualifying for USGA championships on Monday when she carded a 2-over 74 at the Country Club of York to earn a berth into the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

The Women’s Amateur will be held Aug. 9-15 in Charlotte, N.C. The first two days are stroke play with the low 64 scores advancing into match play. Rohanna earned a berth into the 2009 championship, but missed qualifying for match play by one stroke.

Briggs scores ace

Dave Briggs, of Carmichaels, scored a hole-in-one Tuesday at Carmichaels Golf Club. Briggs, the golf coach at Carmichaels High School, used a 6-iron to ace No. 8, a 162-yard par 3. Laura Marquis witnessed the shot.
