Changes made in Brownsville festival
LUZERNE TWP. – There’s been a last-minute change of plans for Sunday’s activities at Patsy Hillman Park. Nena Kaminsky, who is organizing today’s Brownsville Area Community Celebration, said she learned Friday that UCW Wrestling will not be able to perform this afternoon as previously scheduled. Faced with a two-hour entertainment void, Kaminsky said she had to do some quick thinking and turn to local resources.
“We’re going to fill those few hours with a variety of activities,” Kaminsky said. “We’re going to have some local entertainment and we’re going to have games and prizes.”
The hot dog-eating contest will now take place at 4 p.m. instead of at 4:30, as originally planned, Kaminsky said. Kaminsky said some local musicians also have offered to perform during the afternoon hours.
The festival starts at 9 a.m. with a children’s fishing tournament, with prizes donated by Captain Al’s in New Salem and Woodlands World in Uniontown. Other activities, including a car show, vendor, craft, activity and food booths open at 11 a.m. The community event continues through 8 p.m., closing with performances by students at area dance schools.
