Connellsville announces Hall of Fame inductees
CONNELLSVILLE – Several notable Connellsville graduates and others who have been community leaders, mentors to young people and have excelled in their life’s path have been recognized for their contributions by the Connellsville Area Falcon Foundation. Connellsville Area School District athletic director Jim Lembo announced this year’s inductees to the Connellsville Hall of Fame at Wednesday’s school board meeting.
Slated to be inducted into the first class of the Hall of Fame are former teacher and wrestling coach and current board member Tom Dolde, former state Sen. J. William Lincoln; Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lujack; Olympic gold medalist John Woodruff; former teacher, coach and district athletic director Stanley McLaughlin; Korean War veteran and former commanding general at Walter Reed Hospital Lewis Aspey Mologne; longtime educator and former superintendent of schools Clifford N. Pritts; the first Connellsville Area High School baseball coach and teacher Thomas E. Sankovich; World War II veteran and outstanding Connellsville High School athlete John V. “Wally” Schroyer; the director of 35 musical productions during his 35 years with the school district as a teacher of music and fine arts Merle Stutzman and Duke University leading cardiologist and researcher Dr. Galen Wagner.
McLaughlin, Mologne, Pritts and Woodruff are deceased.
Falcon Foundation board member Bob McLuckey said that 37 people were nominated.
“I think we have an outstanding group as our first class and it would be difficult for anyone to argue against any of the eleven people that were selected,” he said. “The Falcon Foundation is committed to this program and we intend to keep it going.”
The inductees will be honored at the high school football game Sept. 24.
In other action, the board also conducted the following business:
n Hired math teachers Amanda Love, Ariana Shah, Daniel Lusk and Erin Paletta at an annual salary of $35,314.
n Approved an agreement with the NHS Human Services of PA for the NHS Autism School.
n Agreed to enter into the district meeting minutes the state Department of Education approval of PlanCon D, accounting estimates and PlanCon E, design development for construction and renovation, for the proposed high school renovation project.
