Police seize marijuana during incident

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

Uniontown police are investigating after they found a man with marijuana following a crash in the city Sunday night. Officer Travis Shandor said the incident occurred just before midnight when police were summoned to a report of a vehicle into a utility pole at the intersection of Craig and Morgantown streets.

Shandor said when officers arrived, they found the pole sheared but noted that the driver had fled the scene in the vehicle.

He said that the vehicle also struck a pickup truck parked at a business at the intersection.

Shandor said that while officers were at the scene, Fayette County 911 received a call from a Uniontown man reporting that he had been in an accident and was now at a location on Easy Street.

Shandor said officers found the man sitting outside a residence on Easy Street with a baggie of marijuana lying beside him and bits of marijuana on his shirt.

The man denied possessing the marijuana and said it was on the porch when he sat down, Shandor said.

Shandor said officers observed the man’s sport utility vehicle parked nearby with extensive damage from the crash. He also noted that the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Shandor said the drugs were seized and placed into evidence and added that charges are pending further investigation.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending the formalization of charges.
