Five charged for participation in riot
Uniontown police said they have charged five people with riot and related charges following an incident in Pershing Court earlier this year. Officer Frederick Kampert said Jakel Brown, 19, of 79 Varndell St., Uniontown; Yasmin Brown, 20, of 120 Park Ave., Uniontown; Rashaunda Fitzgerald, 18, of 112 Poplar St., Lemont Furnace and two Uniontown teenagers were each charged with riot and two counts each of harassment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Kampert said the charges were filed after the group of females approached a residence in Pershing Court to try and fight with Shalan Thomas, 21, also of Uniontown.
When Thomas refused to leave the residence, the suspects began to beat on the residence and Thomas’s vehicle, causing damage to the car and the home.
Kampert said the suspects also used rocks and eggs to damage the residence and the vehicle.
He said that the suspects caused more than $2,500 in damage to the vehicle alone.
He noted that no one was injured as a result of the incident and did not expound on why the group was trying to confront Thomas.
Preliminary hearings for the women and girls will be held at a later date for Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
