SUV, box truck crash injures Uniontown man

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

Uniontown police said a Uniontown man suffered injuries when his vehicle and a box truck collided at Five Corners in Uniontown at 5:29 a.m. Tuesday. Officer Matt Painter said the crash occurred when a box truck driven by Jeffrey Zane, 35, of Menallen Township was traveling east on Main Street when a sport utility vehicle driven by Omar Assem, 29, of Uniontown, struck it.

Painter said that Assem, who was traveling north on South Mount Vernon Avenue, drove through a red light at the intersection, and collided with Zane’s truck.

The impact caused Zane’s truck to overturn, Painter said.

Assem was taken by Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance to Uniontown Hospital for treatment of head and neck injuries.

Zane, who was briefly trapped inside the truck before emergency personnel could extricate him, was not injured in the crash, Painter noted.

Traffic was briefly restricted at the intersection while Uniontown firefighters worked to clear the wreckage.

Officer David J. Rutter, Uniontown police crash reconstruction expert, said that charges are pending as a result of the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
