Teen charged in gang attack to stand trial
A Uniontown teenager facing a dozen charges as an adult for his role in an alleged gang attack in Uniontown in May will stand trial. Uniontown police Detective Donald M. Gmitter said Roy Conrad Johnson, 16, was charged as an adult before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with two counts of riot, two counts of conspiracy to commit riot, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, simple assault, three counts of conspiracy to commit simple assault, disorderly conduct and conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct.
Metros bound all charges against Johnson for Fayette County Court following a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning.
Police arrested Johnson for his alleged involvement in the attack perpetrated by a teenage gang called the Killa Squad, Gmitter said.
Officer Travis Shandor said the attack occurred shortly before 8 p.m. May 10 at 104 Murray Ave.
According to Shandor, Richard Silbaugh, 19, of Fayette City, Kevin Rich, 19, of Uniontown and a Uniontown teenager were sitting on the porch at the residence when between 20 and 30 teenage boys ran out of an alley and started to attack them.
Gmitter said that at least one of the aggressors was wielding a knife and several others were armed with large pipes.
Shandor said that Silbaugh, Rich and the teenager on the porch suffered multiple injuries during the fight and were taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.
Gmitter said that the fight occurred because the suspected teenagers wanted to retaliate against Rich after he was allegedly involved in a scuffle several weeks prior to the incident.
Gmitter said that during the investigation, he learned that the suspects are part of the Killa Squad gang and that they systematically organized the attack.
The charges against Johnson were filed after Kyle Bass, 16, of 26 Pershing Court, Uniontown; Demond Wiggan, 16, of 87 Cleveland Ave., Uniontown and Tre McCargo, 17, of 27 Lenox St., Uniontown, Aaron Durkin, 18, of Uniontown and Ramal Chisler, no address available, were charged with more than 10 counts each for their role in the alleged attack, Gmitter said.
Bass, Wiggan and McCargo each had preliminary hearings last month and all three suspects will face trial in Fayette County Court. Wiggan, Bass and McCargo remain in the Fayette County Prison.
Warrants remain for Durkin and Chisler, as well as several unidentified teens who were charged in Fayette County Juvenile Court.
Gmitter said that additional charges are still pending against other suspects, all juveniles.
Johnson remains free after posting 10 percent of $50,000 straight cash bail.
Anyone with information regarding Durkin or Chisler is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
