MENALLEN TWP. – Arrest warrants were issued Wednesday for two of five people accused of breaking into an occupied home in Menallen Township earlier in the week. Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. issued arrest warrants for Dexter M. Smith, 27, and Krystle D. Syed, 25, both of Uniontown, for their alleged role in the incident.

State police Trooper David L. Bell said the home invasion occurred at 11:10 p.m. at a residence on Moore Avenue.

Bell said Ed Ziots, 87, of Menallen Township and Karen Sanders, 46, no address available, were in the home when Syed knocked on the door.

When Sanders answered the door, Smith and three other unidentified men quickly entered the home.

Once inside, one of the men brandished a handgun and forced Ziots and Sanders into a bedroom.

Bell said the men then forced Ziots and Sanders onto the floor and used a telephone cord to tie them up.

The men then removed a safe from a closet inside the bedroom before fleeing the residence, Bell said.

It was not clear what was contained in the safe. No one was injured as a result of the robbery, Bell said.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Smith or Syed, or the identity of the three remaining suspects, is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.
