Construction may cause delays on Route 88

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

CENTERVILLE – Motorists who travel on Route 88 between Low Hill and Route 40 may experience some delays as traffic is moved onto the new roadway constructed as part of the Mon/Fayette Expressway project. According to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, northbound traffic will be rerouted from the temporary road to the newly constructed road on July 28. Crews will still be doing line painting and removing some old road markings, so northbound motorists may experience stoppages of up to 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while that work is done.

Motorists heading south will face similar delays when the new southbound lanes are opened on Aug. 4.

There will also be a new lane width restriction for both northbound and southbound traffic. The roadway will be narrowed from the current 11-foot restriction to a maximum of 10 feet wide. That restriction will remain in place until further notice.
