By The 1 min read

WHARTON TWP. – No one was injured when fire ripped through a home in Wharton Township early Friday. The fire broke out shortly after 4 a.m. at the home located on Farmington-Ohiopyle Road.

Volunteer firefighters from Farmington, Ohiopyle, Markleysburg and Hopwood responded to the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire.

The home sustained heavy interior damage, officials said.

“The interior of the home was destroyed and the remainder of the house sustained smoke and water damage,” John VanSickle, assistant fire chief for Farmington, said.

VanSickle said that it was not clear how the fire began and noted the state police fire marshal was called to investigate.

Five residents were displaced as a result of the fire.

The American Red Cross responded to the home and provided food and clothing to the residents.

Emergency personnel from Fayette EMS also responded to the blaze.
