Atlantic Broadband announces upgrades

By Herald Standard Staff 2 min read

UNIONTOWN – Atlantic Broadband is converting to an all-digital video network beginning next month that will bring its customers more than 60 new HD channels – for a total of nearly 80 by later this year at no additional charge. The digital conversion also will improve TV picture and sound quality for virtually all customers, and provide the additional capacity for faster broadband Internet and new digital services in the future, an Atlantic spokesman said.

Atlantic Broadband customers with HD service will get 10 new high-definition channels beginning Oct. 12: ABC Family HD, ESPN 2 HD, Discovery HD, TBS HD, FX HD, Lifetime HD, TLC HD, History Channel HD, HGTV HD and Food Network HD. On Nov. 9, 24 additional HD channels will be added. And on Dec. 14, 28 more HD channels will make their debut. That is 62 new HD channels in all. Other changes are being announced in mailings to customers.

The company’s transition to all-digital delivery of TV signals starts Aug. 17, when Atlantic Broadband begins simulcasting in both analog and digital format the Value Service channels that will be converted to digital in three phases.

Value Service customers without digital TVs will need a digital adapter (two free of charge for each household) from Atlantic Broadband for each TV hooked up to cable in order to continue viewing all the cable networks in their service tier. Or, they may opt for a digital receiver, with or without HD, if they wish to upgrade to Digital Service.

From Sept. 28 onward, Limited (Broadcast) Service customers will be unaffected by the digital transition. They will continue to receive their channels (2 through 22 and channel 98) in analog format.

Value and affected Digital Service customers may pick up their free digital adapter(s) at Atlantic Broadband’s special pick-up site in front of the Giant Eagle grocery store in Fayette Plaza, Route 51, or its Uniontown office, 320 Bailey Avenue; or they may call 888-520-9866 toll free for free delivery. The adapters come with instructions for easy hook-up. Installation is also available for a standard service call charge.

Atlantic Broadband serves nearly 25,000 households in Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties and nearby West Virginia communities; and more than 100,000 in total across central and western Pennsylvania.
