By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

The Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce met July 6 in the Greene Academy. The chamber is a part of the 57th Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Show. It will be held the week of Aug. 22 through Aug. 28, at the Car-michaels fire hall. Advance carnival ride tickets at $8 each are available at Brodak’s Shop ‘n Save, or from any chamber director. John Brodak reported the annual fly-in held in June was very successful, with 735 flights, and entries from as far away as Australia, Hawaii and Canada. The directors approved a donation of $50 to the Ice Plant Car Show held in Greensboro, July 17. All proceeds will be donated to area children’s charities.

Ruth Enci reported that the annual Community That Cares picnic attracted more than 200 people; the Senior Games had 700 participating, with 500 at the banquet following the games. Seniors were from Washington, Fayette and Greene counties.

It was reported that several children’s programs are taking place at the Flenniken Public Library.

A thank-you note was received from the Flenniken Public Library for the $100 donation in memory of director Michael Schlesinger. The book “Energizing Science Projects with Electricity and Magnetism,” by Robert Gardner is on display.

The next chamber meeting will be Aug. 3.
