William W. “Winnie” Fowkes
William W. “Winnie” Fowkes of Centerville Borough Brownsville, Pennsylvania died Saturday July 24, 2010 in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born September 23, 1929 to Walker Fowkes and Agnes (Paxon) Fowkes in Granville, Pennsylvania.
William graduated from East Pike Run High School in 1950.
Mr. Fowkes was a veteran of the Korean War who served in the United States Army.
He had been employed by Pages Wire in Monessen, Pennsylvania and later by the California University of Pennsylvania as a Custodian for over eighteen years before retiring in 1989.
Mr. Fowkes attended the First United Methodist Church of Fredericktown and was a member of Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705, Centerville, Pennsylvania.
He was a avid Pittsburgh Steelers and baseball fan and was active for over 20 years in Little League baseball in both the Centerville and California areas having coached the California Yankees and later the Coal Center Blue Jays.
He enjoyed spending time with his Friends and Family at his camp in Pymatuming.
Deceased are his parents; his wife, Marcella V. Fowkes who died October 19, 2007; two brothers, James Fowkes and C l a r e n c e Fowkes; and two sisters, Laurena Hudzinka and Betty Paul.
He is survived by two sons: Dannie Fowkes (Angie) of California, Pennsylvania and James Fowkes (Diane) of Bentleyville, Pennsylvania; two daughters: Christine Evans (Ed) of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, Vivian Fisher (Clarence) of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Michelle Huba, Michael Fowkes, Michael Semancik, B e r n a d e t t e Semancik, Christopher Fisher, Michelle Rodriguez; four great grandchildren: Aidan Huba, Taylor Alexis Fowkes, M i c h a e l Rodriguez, Joey Rodriguez; a special nephew, Wally Leeper; a special niece, Yvonne Smith; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 in GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, Pennsylvania where Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 28, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Brian Carroll officiating.
Entombment will follow in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pennsylvania.
Full Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post No. 705 of Centerville, Pennsylvania.
