Cancer society to hold fourth annual bike-a-thon Aug. 8

The American Cancer Society’s Western Pennsylvania Region will host its fourth annual bike-a-thon on Aug. 8 at Southside Works in Pittsburgh. Bikers of all ages can register now at www.pittsburghbike.org. Four exciting courses offer a fun variety for beginning bikers to advanced riders. All routes start and end at SouthSide Works Town Square and are designed as follows:

5 mile – 11 a.m. start.

25 mile – 9 a.m. start.

40 mile – 8 a.m. start.

No Starts after 9 a.m.

75 mile – 7 a.m. start.

No starts after 8 a.m.

Rest stops will be along the route for cyclists to rest refuel, as well as rider support with volunteer mechanics from local bike shops, SAG wagons, repair and first aid patrols, and safe return transportation.

After each of the rides end, participants are invited to relax with their fellow riders, teammates, friends, and families, as food and beverages will be available for all riders, cancer survivors and volunteers. Non-riders are also welcome to join in the fun at the end party and may purchase a meal for a nominal cost, payable directly at the event.

The endpoint activities will begin at 11 a.m. and continue into the afternoon. Cancer survivors who participate in the ride or attend the end party will be honored in a special way.

Pennsylvania Division -Western Region serves the counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland.

All fundraising money must be postmarked on or before August 30th to qualify for awards, prizes, and fundraising rankings.

The first 250 registered participants are guaranteed to receive an official bike-a-thon T-shirt.

Donation for participating in the 25-mile, 40-mile and 75-mile courses is $40/rider. Donation for participating in the family fun ride is $15 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 18.
