Smithfield man faces trial on rape charges
A Smithfield man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl that had been reported missing by her family last month will stand trial. Trooper Heather L. Clem said Larry Hoskins Carr Jr., 40, of 122 Main St. was charged in June before Magisterial District Judge Wendy D. Dennis with two counts each of rape, statutory sexual assault and indecent assault and a single count of false imprisonment.
Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham bound all charges against Carr for Fayette County Court following a hearing Thursday.
Clem said the girl had been reported missing by her mother to Uniontown police at 9:30 p.m. June 6.
According to Clem, the girl admitted to police that she ran away from home and that while she was walking Carr drove up to her in a pickup truck and forced her inside.
The girl told investigators that Carr then drove her to his home, where he forced her to have sexual intercourse with him on two occasions, Clem said.
Clem said that Carr also kept the girl locked inside his residence with a padlock and sometimes locked her inside his bedroom with an additional padlock.
The girl told police that she told Carr she did not want to have sex and struck him in an attempt to stop him, Clem said.
The girl also admitted that she had told Carr she was 18 years old, Clem said.
Clem said that during interviews with police, Carr admitted to having sex with the girl but also said that he believed she was 18 years old.
The Herald-Standard does not identify the victims of alleged sexual assault.
Carr remains in the Fayette County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bond.
