Center West Sewer Authority nears project groundbreaking
WEST BROWNSVILLE – Center West Sewer Authority is a little under two months away from breaking ground on its long-delayed sewerage project in West Brownsville and Centerville boroughs. Project engineer Glenn Wolfe of Widmer Engineering informed residents in attendance at last week’s sewer authority meeting that the two-month time frame is the normal progression for a project of this size.
Last month, the sewer authority announced that Port Vue Plumbing of McKeesport came in as the lowest bidder for construction of the sewage treatment plant and pump stations with a bid of $4.1 million.
Meanwhile, Shallenberger Construction of Connellsville bid $367,367 for the electrical work, while Glenn Johnston Inc. of McKeesport will be constructing the sewage collection system with its bid of $3.9 million.
“Right now, it’s just the standard paperwork procedures that needs to be in place,” Wolfe said. “It’s all about making sure the ‘T’s’ are crossed and the ‘I’s’ dotted.”
Wolfe added as soon as the sewer authority receives the OK from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) the sewer authority will contact the contractors and send them a notice of intent to award them the contracts.
Sewer authority members said they are eager to get the project started as soon as possible.
Wolfe said his goal is to have all the paperwork in place by the second week of September, with the project to start by the end of September.
The next scheduled sewer authority meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the West Brownsville municipal building.
