Knapp, Ruby play well

George Knapp and Joe Ruby, both of Uniontown, fared well in the West Penn Senior Amateur played at Lake View Country Club on June 24.
Ruby finished sixth with a two-round total of 11-over-par 155 (77-78) on the 6,854-yard, Par 72 course. Knapp tied for ninth with a 13-over-par 157 (83-74).
Ruby and Knapp, along with Kevin Muehring, will golf in the Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Championship at Chester Valley Golf Club on Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 2-3.
Local pair in PA Open
Waynesburg’s Robert Rohanna and Mount Pleasant’s Dan Konieczny qualified for the Pennsylvania Open. Applebrook Golf Club will host the state’s golf championship on Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 9-10.
Rantovich cards ace
Masontown’s George Rantovich scored his eighth career hole-in-one at Rohanna’s Golf Course on July 24. Rantovich’s first swing of his round with a 9-iron found the hole on No. 17, a 110-yard par-3.
Gary Valusek, Bob Maust, John Helmick, Bob Drazgowski, Ryan Latocha, Bob Antion and Bob McCombs witnessed the shot.
Siegfried leading Amateur
Cory M. Seigfried, of Philadelphia Country Club, posted his second consecutive sub-par round Tuesday for a two-shot lead in the 97th Amateur Championship at Nemacolin Woodlands.
Siegfried finished with a 2-under 70 for a two-round total of 8-under 136.
Lancaster Country Club’s Brandon Detweiler trails by two strokes (69-69-138) heading into today’s final round.
Wildwood Golf Club’s Grant M. Martens and Overbrook Golf Club’s Michael Kania were tied for third, five strokes back with a two-day total of 3-under 141 on the 7,322-yard, Par 72 course.
