Cat clinic set

Fayette Friends of Animals, a nonprofit shelter in Uniontown, will team up with Animals Friends of Pittsburgh in sponsoring low-cost cat spay and neuter days on Aug. 7 and 19.

Animal Friends will be providing help with spays and neuters by bringing their mobile spay clinic to the shelter.

The two clinic days have slots available for both male and female cats. Each spay day can accommodate 15 female and 15 male cats.

Representatives of Fayette Friends of Animals said the shelter has been working diligently to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the county and surrounding areas and needs help from the public to accomplish this. The feral/stray cat population has been a problem in Fayette County, with the shelter getting roughly 50 calls a day asking to take cats.

This is resulting in a numerous amount of cats to be taken in and the shelter can only take healthy house 65 cats, shelter representatives said.

Anyone with interest in being a part of the spay clinic must apply and provide proof of income. Shelter hours are from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The shelter is closed on Thursdays and Sundays. The number to call and apply for the clinic is 724-245-7815.
