Police arrest man clocked at driving 101 mph
A man was arrested Friday after police clocked him going 101 mph on a section of Route 21 in Greene County. State police Sgt. Kevin T. Kolson, state commander of the Waynesburg barracks, said David Allan Hoefler, 57, of Carmichaels was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and possession of crack cocaine following a traffic stop in Monongahela Township.
Kolson said Trooper Joe Popielarcheck stopped Hoefler’s vehicle after allegedly clocking the man traveling at 101 mph on Route 21 around 7:30 p.m.
Kolson said Hoefler agreed to take a breath test to check his alcohol level and that it showed Hoefler’s blood-alcohol content at .327, which is well above the legal limit of .08.
Hoefler allegedly told police that he has an alcohol problem, Kolson said.
Police said Hoefler was taken to Southwest Regional Medical Center for medical treatment, and was then taken to Carmichaels and released to the custody of the supervisor of the halfway house where he currently resides.
Kolson commended Popielarcheck for his aggressive patrols of the Waynesburg barracks coverage area, noting that patrol troopers save countless lives by conducting traffic stops on dangerous drivers.
