Dunham, Beucher carry Bud Murphy’s to 9-1 triumph over Mitch’s Bail Bonds

Todd Dunham allowed one run over the first four innings, and Sam Beucher pitched three shutout frames Thursday to carry Bud Murphy’s to a 9-1 victory over visiting Mitch’s Bail Bonds in Fayette County Baseball League action. Dunham (1-1) allowed four hits, walking four and striking out four. Beucher earned his first save of the season, allowing one hit while striking out two and walking two.

Mitch’s Bail Bonds (2-3) scored its lone run in the top of the first.

Andy Schleihauf’s two-run double sparked a three-run output in the bottom of the third, and he was at it again with a two-run single in the fourth.

Bud Murphy’s put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth inning, one scoring on Schleihauf’s third hit of the game.

Mike Hermann added a pair of singles for the victors.

Ty Erdely took the loss, pitching four innings with five runs scored (four earned) on five hits, three walks and one strikeout.

The two teams meet again tonight with Bud Murphy’s (6-1) on the road to Charleroi to face Mitch’s Bail Bonds (2-3).

Blue Mountain 7, Mill Run 3 – Kevin Holdsworth went the distance, leading Blue Mountain to a Fayette County Baseball League victory in a game called after six innings because of rain.

Holdsworth won his first game of the season, striking out nine and walking one.

Leading 1-0 after the first inning, the game was in a rain delay with Blue Mountain mounting a threat.

When the game resumed, Chris Buncic smacked a run-scoring single, and Rick Smykla followed suit. The third run scored on J.W. Kayla’s infield ground out, and the fourth came home on a error. The final run of the inning scored on Eric Holt’s single.

Rich Orndorf scored Mill Run’s first run with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, but Blue Mountain countered with Holt’s solo shot in the bottom of the inning. Mill Run’s Kris Firestone hit a sole home run in the top of the sixth.

Smykla also doubled for a two-hit game, as did Kayla.

Jim Warrick had two singles for Mill Run.

Blue Mountain (4-0) hosts GK Realty Sunday afternoon. Mill Run slips to 1-3-1.

Watson & Sons 5, Pasta Lorenzo 1 – Both teams had three hits, but the visitors did the most with what little it had for a Fayette County Baseball League road victory.

Watson & Sons’ Drew Denham and David Montibeller both went 1-for-3 with Denham stealing four bases and scoring two runs and Montibeller driving in a run.

Chase McNutt (1-1) went five innings for the win, striking out nine and walking three.

Brian Ohler took the loss and Casey Kupets doubled for Pasta Lorenzo.

Watson & Sons improves to 1-5, while Pasta Lorenzo goes to 2-2-1.

Fayette American Legion

Carmichaels 10, Uniontown 0 – Bill Musgrove shut down Uniontown on three hits, and Nick Clarke had a big offensive night to lead Carmichaels to a road victory.

Clarke plated Carmichaels’ first run with a single in the top of the first, and extended the lead with a three-run home run in the fourth. Carmichaels also scored three runs in the third, and finished with three runs in the eighth, two scoring on Joe Monica’s double.

Clarke went 3-for-4, while Monica scored three runs. Nathan Keller and Brian Coleman both added a pair of singles.

Musgrove struck out seven and walked only two.

Carmichaels improves to 2-4.
