Parks and recreation

The PPRA is sponsoring “Dancing under the Stars” in Sampey Park from 7:30 until 11 p.m. June 25. Disc jockey Jim Dudas, host of Mon Valley Memories on WJPA 95.3 FM and 1450 AM, will be spinning the music from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

Advanced tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling 724-736-0166 or 724-736-2133. Tickets at the door are $7. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Proceeds benefit the restoration of the Old State Bank Building/Museum.

The PPRA would like to remind dog owners that a doggie waste station with baggies is located on Circle Street, between Karolcik Park and the Frazier House.

Strawberry Festival

The Perryopolis Area Heritage Society will hold its annual strawberry festival at the Mary Fuller Frazier House in Perryopolis from 12 to 3 p.m. June 13.

A strawberry dessert featuring homemade cake with ice cream and strawberries along with a drink can be purchased. Adults tickets are $5; children 12 and younger, $2.50. Sandwiches, potato salad and haluski can also be purchased for an additional cost.

Tickets can be purchased from any member of the Perryopolis Heritage Society or at the Frazier House on June 13.

Altar Society news

Members of St. John’s Altar Society of Perryopolis are to note the meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 24 in the social center. Members on the social committee are Cil Lesho, chairman; Pat Filak, Rose Casey, Linda Smeigh, Sue Daniels, Dorothy Rebovich and Irene Smith.

Born to Run winners

On May 29, the 10th annual “Born to Run” was held at Sampey Park for students in grades kindergarten through eighth. The weather was perfect and 55 runners participated. The top five runners in each category are as follows:
