Menallen to begin sewer project in near future
MENALLEN TWP. – Menallen Township supervisors announced on Thursday that a sewer project will begin in the township in the near future. The supervisors said they have delivered the right-of-way plats to the residents along New Salem Road, Route 40, Upper Middletown and Misty Meadows, who are affected by the project.
“It is important to get moving,” said Supervisor Joe Petrucci.
The supervisors urged anyone with questions to contact K2 Engineering of Uniontown at 724-439-3440. Any additional questions can be answered by contacting the supervisors at 724-245-7108.
In other matters, the supervisors said they wanted to make it clear that they did not complete the new pavement projects on Dearth Road and Pleasant View-Smock Road. The state undertook the project, they said.
The supervisors have been receiving phone calls from residents about the quality of the paving job, citing the roads as very bumpy and having loose pieces of gravel.
“It is like an old-time washboard,” said Supervisor Robert “Tweety” Yatsko.
Resident Ted Lacy brought to the attention of the supervisors an issue of vehicles, including school buses, speeding on Lacey Road.
The supervisors said they would write a letter to the state police asking them to set up a speed check along the road.
Another resident, Leslie Slack, asked the supervisors what could be done about the noise created by a gas-powered pump belonging to her neighbors on Lexington Ave.
She said her family has approached the neighbors about the noise level of the pump, but nothing has changed.
Petrucci said he knew they had purchased an electric pump, which was much quieter, and were using it for a period of time.
The supervisors asked code enforcement officer Myron Nypaver to research a possible property maintenance ordinance.
In other business, the supervisors announced they will seek bids for materials for road patch jobs, tar and oil this month.
The bids will be opened at the next meeting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 1.
In other matters, the supervisors reminded residents:
n Burning is only permitted on Saturday unless a resident has specific permission from the township.
n Residents must keep their grass cut or will face the possibility of a fine.
n Nypaver will be available once a week in the evening to meet with residents that cannot make an appointment during the day.
n Former residents who lived in the village of Searights before 1980 are invited to attend a reunion that will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 31 at the Fireman’s Park at New Salem Woods.
n The New Salem Fire Department will host a hog roast on July 10 and 11.
n All dogs in Colonial Manor must be leashed. The proper authorities will be contacted for any dogs running loose.
