Hearing planned in robbery case
The preliminary hearing for a Fayette County man charged with robbery and simple assault has been scheduled for June 17 after being continued last month. State police charged Craig O. David Jr., 32, of Smithfield with a felony count of robbery after he allegedly stole a debit card belonging to Darla Jean David, 51, of Smithfield.
The incident occurred at 2776 Morgantown Road, Georges Township, around 4:15 p.m. May 4, and Craig David Jr. was taken into custody on May 22 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
A preliminary hearing on the charges was scheduled for May 27 before Magisterial District Judge Randy Abraham, but the hearing was continued to 3:30 p.m. June 17.
Trooper Andrew Prizzi said Craig David Jr. allegedly took Darla Jean David’s debit card by force.
Prizzi said Craig David Jr. hit both Darla Jean David and Craig O. David. Sr., 56, of Smithfield in the head during the altercation.
Darla Jean David suffered a bruised face, and Craig David Sr. suffered a cut above the left eye, according to police.
Prizzi said Craig David Jr. fled the scene following the altercation.
In addition to a felony county of robbery, Craig David Jr. faces charges of theft, receiving stolen property and two counts each of simple assault and harassment.
Craig David Jr. was jailed after being taken into custody on the arrest warrant after failing to post a $25,000 straight cash bond.
