Wharton officials mull easement agreement

By Steve Ferris 2 min read

FARMINGTON – Wharton Township supervisors are reviewing a proposed easement agreement that could settle a dispute over their plans to build a cul-de-sac on Marker Road. Solicitor Ricardo Cicconi on Monday outlined the proposed agreement after Marker Road resident Earl Marker asked for an update on the project and said storm water drainage improvements are needed on the road.

The township has been trying to build a cul-de-sac on property that residents and officials said has been used as a turnaround for many years.

Some property owners agreed to donate parts of their land for the cul-de-sac, but the township initiated eminent domain proceedings to acquire property from four other landowners.

Cicconi said he delivered the proposed easement agreement to the supervisors prior to Monday’s meeting.

The agreement would not require the township to pay the owners for the property and the land could continue to be used as a turnaround unless it is subdivided and developed, Cicconi said.

If the land is subdivided and developed, the cul-de-sac would have to be relocated, he said.

Supervisor Jack Lewis said the current turnaround area is small and township plow trucks sometimes have to back out of the road.

He said the supervisors were waiting to learn the fate of their grant application for drainage improvements, but they would take a look at the drainage and try to make repairs this summer.

In other business, the supervisors:

n Authorized Cicconi to prepare an ordinance exempting residents 65 years old and older from the township’s $5 per capita tax.

n Authorized Henning to solicit donations to pave the walking trail at Wharton Park.

n Agreed to get price quotes for various sizes of drainage pipe.

n Announced that the annual YMCA Day Camp at Wharton Park begins the week of June 21.
