Third baseman Greg Welsh and outfielder Tyler Domer will represent Connellsville. Bucs pick another pitcher
The Pirates chose another hard-throwing pitcher, right-hander Stetson Allie of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, with their second-round pick in the draft.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Allie’s fastball has been clocked in the high 90-mph range – just like their first-round pick, Texas high school pitcher Jameson Taillon. Allie, the No. 52 pick overall, has committed to play at North Carolina.
Industry publication Baseball America rated Allie as having the second best fastball among high school pitchers to Taillon.
Of the Pirates’ first 10 picks, nine were right-handed pitchers – seven of them high school players. The exception was third-round selection Mel Rojas Jr., an Illinois junior college outfielder and the son of former major league pitcher Mel Rojas.
