Council votes to keep sidewalk bid

By The 1 min read

CARMICHAELS – Carmichaels Borough Council agreed to keep the lone bid submitted for a sidewalk replacement project and advertise for additional bids. Council did not open the sealed bid it received prior to Tuesday’s meeting, but agreed to advertise twice for more bids to get more competing prices.

Councilman Chris Bates suggested opening the submitted bid and accepting it if it was reasonable.

He said the work should be done before the Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Show, which begins Aug. 21, or not begin until after the festival so it doesn’t interfere with the parade and other events.

However, council unanimously approved re-advertising for additional bids.

The project involves replacing 100 feet of 9-foot-wide sidewalk in front of the borough building on West George Street.

In other business, Mayor Mike Dohanich said workers would soon begin sealing cracks in roads with tar.
