Albert Gallatin commencement set for today

Albert Gallatin Area High School will hold commencement at 7 p.m. today at the high school gymnasium. A senior slide show will be shown at 6 p.m.

The Valedictorian for the Class of 2010 is Tyler William Watson. He is a son of Kathleen Watson of McClellandtown and William Watson of Monessen.

His honors include Fayette Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month, Top 20 Students, Challenge Program Highest GPA Grades 9 and 11, Dual Enrollment Program, Advanced Placement Program, National Honor Society, Masontown Exchange Club Scholarship, Albert Gallatin Education Association Scholarship, and the Smithfield Rotary Scholarship.

School and community activities include Student Council, senior class President, team captain varsity football, All Conference and All County football, Future Business Leaders of America State Competition, Young Astronauts vice-president, math team, Academic League, SADD treasurer, and Hatfield Environmental Awareness Team.

After graduation, Tyler will attend Washington & Jefferson College in the engineering program.

The Salutatorians for the class of 2010 are Kathryn L. Gates and Cody Alan Mitchell.

Kathy is a daughter of Kelly and Jon Gates of Point Marion.Her honors include National Honor Society, Top 20 Students, Advanced Placement Program, Gifted and Talented Program, Scholastic Writing Awards, Masontown Exchange Club Scholarship, Albert Gallatin Education Association Scholarship, the Betty Bayne Barnes Scholarship, and the Point Marion Progress Club Award.

School and community activities include school newspaper editor; varsity soccer captain; Cup Soccer with Victory Express in Washington, Pa.; All-County Soccer; Hatfield Environmental Awareness Team; debate team; yearbook staff; Model United Nations; SADD; and Interact club.

After graduation, Kathy will attend the University of North Carolina. She will major in Sports and Exercise Science as part of the pre-med program.

Cody is a son of Renee and David Mitchell of Martin.

His honors include Student of the Semester, National Honor Society, Top 20 Students, Advanced Placement Program, Student of the Month, First Team All-State All-Academic Wrestling, Sandi Smiley Memorial Scholarship, Masontown Exchange Club Scholarship, and the Albert Gallatin Education Association Scholarship.

School and community activities include math team, Young Astronauts president, Interact Club, Future Business Leaders of America regional economics champion, Hatfield Environmental Awareness Team, SADD, student council treasurer, varsity wrestling captain, varsity football, and junior class treasurer.

Cody will attend Washington & Jefferson College with a dual major in business and pre-health.
