Sredzinski will mark 40th anniversary
The Rev. Canon Joseph L. Sredzinski will observe the 40th anniversary of his ordination with a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving at 3 p.m. Sunday in his home parish of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown. In 1958, Sredzinski graduated from the parish school and in 1966 he graduated cum laude from St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake, Mich., with a bachelor’s degree.
After theological studies at Ss. Cyril and Methodist Seminary, also in Orchard Lake, Sredzinski was ordained a priest at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg on May 9, 1970. He was the first parish son of St. Joseph to be ordained.
The oldest of six children born to the late Luis T. and Josephine A. Kois Sredzinski, he has served in various assignments in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg, most recently at St. Hubert Parish in Point Marion and currently as chaplain to St. Emma Monastery/ Retreat House, SCI-Greensburg and at Westmoreland Manor.
Sredzinski has served as national chaplain to the Polish Falcons of America since 1981, local chaplain to the Polish Heritage Club and secretary-treasurer to the Greensburg Fraternity of Polish Priests.
Since June 2000, he prepares and airs a weekly radio program “That You May Believe” on Sunday evenings over WMBS 590 AM.
Sredzinski earned his master of divinity degree in 1976, took postgraduate studies at the North American Seminary in Rome in 1989 and taught in elementary and secondary Cath-olic schools for 14 years.
In 2007, while on pilgrimage to Poland, Srezinski was given the ecclesial designation of “canon” of the archdiocese of Lublin. In 2008, he was a co-recipient of the prestigious Polonian of the Year award at Polish Day in Kennywood Park.
