Golden LivingCenter honored
Uniontown Golden LivingCenter-Uniontown has been recognized as a 2010 recipient of the Silver- Achievement in Quality National Quality Award presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), a trade organization with approximately 11,000 members nationwide. This year, 271 nursing home and assisted living communities from across the nation applied for the award and Golden LivingCenter was one of 38 organizations to receive it. The award will be formally presented to the facility during AHCA/NCAL’s 61st annual convention and exposition, Oct. 10-13, in Long Beach, Calif.
The National Quality Award Program is based on the core values and criteria of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program. Facilities that apply for the Silver Quality Award, formerly known as the Step II Award, must demonstrate very good performance outcomes that have evolved from sustainable approaches to the core values and concepts of visionary leadership, focus on the future, resident-focused excellence, management by innovation, and focus on results and creating value.
Golden LivingCenter-Uniontown has previously won the bronze – Commitment to Quality Award and may now move forward to apply for the Gold – Excellence in Quality Award, which requires them to address the Baldrige Program’s Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence in its entirety.
Greensburg PIC names youth supervisor
Rachel Saul has been named youth programs supervisor for the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette Inc., according to Tim Yurcisin, PIC president.
Saul is a graduate of Gannon University with a master’s degree in public administration. She received her undergraduate degree from Edinboro University with a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking and a minor in art history.
Prior to accepting this new position with the Private Industry Council, Saul was the assistant director of student living at Gannon University. She also was assistant coordinator in residence life while at Edinboro University.
Saul is originally from Brackenridge and currently resides in Greensburg.
Uniontown Tressler joins Choice Optical
Choice Optical in the Nickman Plaza, Lemont Furnace, has announced that Dustin K. Tressler, OD, has joined the practice.
Tressler, a graduate of the University of Missouri- St Louis College of Optometry, has had extensive training in managing glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eye syndrome, as well as contact lens fitting and routine vision exams for the entire family. Tressler is most recently being honored in Orlando, Fla., by the American Optometric Association for his article on “Dry Eye Syndrome” and its effect on the aging population. He earned his undergraduate degree at Washington and Jefferson College in cellular/molecular biology.

Pittsburgh SCORE sets workshop
SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) Pittsburgh will present “Small Business Basics,” workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 26 at its new location, DeVry University, second floor, 210 Sixth Ave., Pittsburgh. The entrance is directly across from the Wood Street trolley station.
The workshop, presented by working professionals, helps new business with studying the legal requirements of starting a new business and covering key topics that will impact the success or failure of the business.
The agenda will include discussion about developing a business plan, financing, marketing, insurance, human resource management, record keeping, obtaining small business loans and business taxes for small business.
There is a fee to attend. Registration and a continental breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m. Discounted parking is available in the building garage below street level.
