Republic man charged with riot will have his day in court
A Republic man accused of challenging a Redstone Township police officer to a fight will have his day in court. Redstone Township police Chief Norman Howard said Timothy James Vernon Sr., 48, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. with riot, failure to disperse, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following his interference with a police warrant sweep March 5.
During a preliminary hearing held this afternoon before Defino, Vernon waived all charges against him to Fayette County Court.
Howard said the charges were filed after Vernon and Misti Thomas, also of Republic, interfered as Howard was searching for four juveniles during a warrant sweep.
Howard said Thomas – the aunt of one of the suspects – drove up to police and asked authorities what they were doing.
