Joseph R. Pokorny Sr.
0005885394-01-1.jpg Joseph R. Pokorny, Sr., 74, of Center Twp, passed away Sunday June 13, 2010 in Heritage Valley Beaver. Born Aug. 31, 1935 in Ronco, Pa, he was a son of the late Michael and Hermina (Faynor) Pokorny.
Mr. Pokorny was a retired employee of United Airlines and he was a US Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Center and pitched professionally in the Philadelphia Phillies baseball organization. Joe loved his grandchildren with all his heart. They were his pride and joy.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 52 years Florence “Fuzzy” (Brechun) Pokorny, a son Frank Pokorny-Hanover, a daughter Laura Hill-Center Twp, six grandchildren: Joe Pokorny, Ali Pokorny, Connor, Colby and Madeline Hill and Morgan Pokorny, a brother Rudy Pokorny and three sisters: Helen Muzidal, Margaret Ferian, Hermina Yesenosky, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Joseph R. Pokorny Jr. in 2005, five brothers Steven Michael, Ignatius, Frank and John Pokorny and three sisters Stella Markatan, Mary Brultz, and Elizabeth Righi.
Friends will be received today from 3 to 8 p.m. in TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., CENTER TWP, 3475 Brodhead Rd Monaca, PA 15061, where a service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church- Center Twp.
Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum-Hopewell Twp.
