Local state rep proposes video poker legislation

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

A local state representative said today that he that he has crafted a bill that would legalize video poker machines in certain establishments, with the financial benefits going to the state, local municipalities, school districts and nonprofit and community organizations. State Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-South Union Township, said he introduced legislation regarding the legalization of video poker machines to help boost the local economy and allow area restaurants and bars to offer the machines to patrons.

“Video poker machines have been in operation in clubs and bars for more than 30 years and we have been turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to them,” Mahoney said. “This would be an opportunity to legalize something that is already in existence to help out the small clubs and establishments and also create a new tax revenue stream for the state and local municipalities.”
