Newell man charged with raping 16-year-old girl

An 18-year-old Newell man is behind bars after police allege he raped a 16-year-old girl at a home in Newell Tuesday night. Southwest Regional police Chief John D. Hartman said Jason Charles Mirabella was charged today before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with rape and sexual assault.

Hartman said the rape occurred late Tuesday or early Wednesday at Mirabella’s home on Morgan Street.

Hartman said Mirabella had been drinking alcohol late Tuesday when he forced himself on the girl.
