Uniontown police investigate robbery

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

Uniontown police are investigating an apparent robbery after a group of men stole $50 from a Uniontown man Monday night. Patrolman Eric Hanula said the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. when Dillon Maust of 73 E. Highland Ave. was at the Uniontown Area YMCA in South Union Township with a friend.

Maust said he encountered a large group of men who told him that he owed one of the men $5 from a bet made four years ago, Hanula said.

Maust told police that the men then walked with him and his friend to Maust’s residence.

Along the way, the men continued to increase the alleged debt from $5 to $100, Hanula said.

Hanula said that Maust told investigators that the men told him they would shoot him and “shoot up his house” if he did not pay them, adding that one of the men displayed a handgun.

Maust told police that when he got to his residence, he went inside and asked his grandfather for $100 to pay the suspects.

His grandfather supplied him with $50 and Maust told police that he gave it to the men who then fled, according to Hanula.

Maust’s friend said that during the incident the men threatened to “keep him hostage” if Maust did not pay the money, Hanula said.
