I?m Going to the Bottom of the Ocean!

3 min read

Swimming in the lake with Mia yesterday I asked her, ?What do you think God is doing right now?? Without hesitation she replied, ?Building houses for us made out of gold and balloons!? (She probably god the gold from being taught about the streets of gold in heaven and the balloons because everytime her or Addie accidentally lets their balloon go, the only way to avoid sever mental breakdown is to assure them that God is keeping each lost balloon in heaven for them.) Who says kids don?t use perfect logic? Just after this short conversation about heavenly balloon houses she says, ?Watch, Mom! I?m going to go all the way down to the bottom of the ocean!? Without correcting her, I said, ?Ok, let?s see!? With that she stuck her face in the water and immediately popped back up. ?Mom! You should see what?s down there! There?s catfish and TIGERfish and there?s even sharks!??

As I scanned the indescribable beauty of the mountains touching the water in every direction as far as I could see I considered this verse:

?However, as it is written:

?No eye has seen,

no ear has heard,

no mind has conceived

what God has prepared for those who love him? ~1Corinthians 2:9

I thought of how little I really know and understand about the deep love and beauty that God has for us. I believe I could know so much more if I thought it worthwhile to do more than dip my face in the water and immediately come back up when I do decide to look at Him.

We saw a couple scuba divers in the lake when we were driving the boat around. I told Mia why they needed all that gear. I told her that if she really wanted to see what was at the bottom of the lake (or the ocean!) she?d need to be more prepared. Now she really wants to scuba dive!

9?However, as it is written:

?No eye has seen,

no ear has heard,

no mind has conceived

what God has prepared for those who love him?? 10but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. ~1Corinthians 2:9-10

25At that time Jesus said, ?I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. ~Matthew 11:25

If I want to be immersed in the deep things of God, I have to be a little more prepared. I already have all my scuba gear ? the Bible, prayer and the Holy Spirit- all I have to do is use it. Lord, let me not be satisfied with a few seconds here and there, but let me be immersed in you at all times!
