Quebec Road bridge project continues to move along
FARMINGTON – The Wharton Township supervisors on Monday agreed to submit a permit registration to the state for the Quebec Road Bridge replacement project. Supervisors said the state Department of Environmental Protection requires the permit because the project would involve working in Quebec Run Creek.
In April, the state Department of Transportation mandated closing the township-owned bridge after an inspection found it was not safe for 3-ton vehicle traffic.
In unrelated business, the supervisors agreed to send letters to companies drilling for Marcellus shale gas, advising them of residents’ concerns about their water wells.
Supervisor Joe Henning suggested the letters saying residents have approached him about the subject.
“A lot of people in our area are concerned,” Henning said.
He said he wants solicitor Ricardo Cicconi to review the letter before it is mailed.
In a separate matter, Cicconi said he completed a draft of an ordinance exempting residents 65 years old and older from paying the township’s $5 per capita tax.
He asked the supervisors to review it and said he would also ask the township tax collector to review it before the supervisors consider adoption.
In other business, the supervisors:
n Accepted a $28,250 bid from A. C. Moyer Co. to pave R.J. Lilly Drive and Crepps Road. Two other bids submitted for the work were more than $40,000.
n Said parents can still register their children for the YMCA Day Camp, which started Monday, at Wharton Park. Children can be registered at the township building or the park. The camp runs through the week of Aug. 9.
