CARMICHAELS – Kevin Holdsworth and Cy Moziago pitched a combined three-hit shutout in Blue Mountain’s 10-0 victory over GK Realty Tuesday in Fayette County Baseball League action at Carmichaels High School. Holdsworth allowed two hits in six innings of work. He had seven strikeouts and four walks. Moziago surrendered one hit with two strikeouts and no walks in one inning. Two of GK Realty’s (7-6) hits came in the second inning.

“Tonight was nice because we got really good pitching,” Blue Mountain manager Richard Krause said. “Kevin Holdsworth put us in a position to win.”

Leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Copperheads (6-3-1) put up seven runs on three hits to take an 8-0 lead.

With one out, Josh George doubled and was replaced by George Taylor. JW Kayla singled and Moziago’s two-run double scored Taylor and Kayla.

Adam Lewton walked and Nathan Keller entered the game as a courtesy runner. John Leonard walked to load the bases and GK Realty manager Steve Kezmarsky took out starting pitcher Cory Borland.

Borland allowed six run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. He had two strikeouts and five walks. Cory Sawka relieved Borland.

The Copperheads’ Rick Smykla walked to force in Moziago before Chuck Gasti was hit by pitch to score Keller. Sawka got an out, but the bases remained loaded for Ron Nopwasky, who walked to bring home Leonard. An error by GK Realty scored Smykla and Gasti.

“Giving up seven runs in an inning will not get it done,” Kezmarsky said. “We also have to start hitting the ball and putting some runners on.”

The Copperheads drew four walks in the fourth inning and seven in the game.

“I was pleased with out patience at the plate,” Krause said. “We need guys to get deeper into the count. Our schedule has been a bit sporadic, and we haven’t been able to get in a rhythm.”

Moziago and Gasti had two RBI’s for Blue Mountain. Kayla chipped in with two hits and an RBI for the Copperheads.

“We have to learn to win when Nate Fike isn’t pitching,” Kezmarsky said. “We strand too many runners on base. This is a young team that will get better. Our oldest player is 22.”

GK Realty looks to rebound today against Pasta Lorenzo in Republic, while Blue Mountain travels to Mill Run.
