Mary Ann Capan Evancheck
0005889737-01-1.jpg Mary Ann Capan Evancheck, age 90, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010, in the Golden Living Center, Uniontown. She was born September 10, 1919, in Ralph, Pa, the daughter of the late Jan Capan and Mary Capan Novak.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Raymond Evancheck; brothers and sisters: John (PJ) Novak, Joseph (Hick) Novak, Martin Capan, John (Trailer) Capan, Bertha (Sue) Holly and Helen Capan Liptak, siblings during infancy: twins, Margaret and Frank Novak and another sister Margaret Novak.
Mary was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) R.C. Church, Christian Mothers, St. Mary’s Golden Age and the Ethnic Craft Club of St. John Byzantine where her cross stitching and embroidery were featured on Easter Basket Covers and Raffle Quilts. She was a graduate of the former North Union High School class of 1938. Mary worked for many years at Berkowitz Shirt Factory as a seamstress and A & D Sportswear until her retirement. She volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society for over 30 years.
She enjoyed traveling abroad visiting religious sites around the world. She enjoyed accompanying her husband, Johnny, to various Old Time Fiddler events. Her ready smile, sharing ways and love of plants will be fondly remembered by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving children: “Jack” John P. Evancheck and wife Elaine of Connellsville, PA, George S. Evancheck and wife Marcia of Norfolk, Virginia and Ronald E. Evancheck and wife Beth of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren: Marie Evancheck Mitchell and husband David, Lauren Evancheck, Nolan Evancheck and Steven Evancheck; great-grand-children: Donna Evancheck, Katelyn, Jack and Kierstin Mitchell; sister, Martha Sadosky and husband Andrew of Uniontown; sister-in-law, Sophia Capan of Uniontown; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday morning until 9:30 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s (Nativity) R.C. Church with Rev. Father Micah E. Kozoil as celebrant.
Interment follows in the St. Mary Church Cemetery, Uniontown.
A Parish Wake will be held Friday, June 25, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
