By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

SOUTH STRABANE TWP. – Two Greene County men charged with stealing copper wire from a mineshaft in Washington County last fall have turned themselves in to police. South Strabane police charged Donald Smotzer, 35, of 103 First St., Greensboro, and Michael Scott Marshall, 26, of 52 Front St., Greensboro, with theft, conspiracy to commit theft, criminal mischief and defiant trespassing June 11.

The men turned themselves in to Magisterial District Judge Jay Weller Tuesday.

Smotzer and Marshall each are accused of stealing copper owned by CONSOL Energy from their McKahan ventilation shaft on Meyers Road in South Strabane Township.

Police said the men reportedly gained entrance to the transformers at the site where they removed copper wires.

Preliminary hearings for both men are scheduled for July 20.
