JEFFERSON – Mitch’s Bail Bonds scored six runs in the top of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie, en route to an 8-4 victory over Watson & Sons Thursday evening in Fayette County Baseball League action. “Our pitching and defense are good for us, it all depends on our hitting,” Mitch’s Bail Bonds coach Ryan Encapera said. “When we have our whole lineup here, like we did today, our team is pretty good. We have had a couple of games when we didn’t have some guys and we were just scraping with nine or 10 guys.”

Mitch’s Bail Bonds (8-7) had Tim Madar on the mound, and despite allowing 12 hits, he was able to get the win by making big pitches and getting out of jams. Madar pitched six innings, allowing only four runs with three walks and two strikeouts.

“Tim did a good job for us today,” Encapera said. “We were down some arms and only had some options at relief pitchers in the game. We had a lot of games this week and it was his turn to pitch. We played solid defense behind him and he got out a lot of jams. He was able to make the big pitch and throw strikes consistently.”

Isaiah Bell pitched the seventh to shutdown the Watson & Sons’ offensive attack.

Mitch’s Bail Bonds grabbed an early lead when Pat Gannon launched a solo home run over the leftfield fence in the second inning. Later in the inning, Chad Pappasergi contributed a two-out RBI single to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Watson & Sons trimmed the deficit in half in the third frame with a sacrifice fly by A.J. Curtis.

In the fourth, Brian Rodavich collected a RBI double that scored Josh Lawrence to tie the game up at 2-2.

Mitch’s Bail Bonds sent 11 batters up to the plate in the sixth and seized hold of the momentum to score six runs. The big hits in the inning for Mitch’s Bail Bonds were a two-run single by Ben Carson and a two-bagger by Mick Betler that drove in two more runs.

Pitcher Shane Tonkavitch was chased out of that sixth inning and suffered the loss for Watson & Sons. Tonkavitch pitched five-plus inning, allowing seven runs on five hits with six walks and five strikeouts. Rodavich came on in relief and pitched the last two innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Watson & Sons (2-10) managed to put two runs on the board, including a RBI single by David Montibeller.

The story of the game for Watson & Sons was its inability to get the big hit when needed, leaving 12 runners on base in the loss.

“We just couldn’t get that big hit when we really needed it,” Watson & Sons coach Ron Falcon said. “That was basically the difference maker in the game. We just have to hit and keep the same approach at the plate. We pitched pretty well, we just had that one bad inning.”
