Wagner to appear at miners meeting

In brief … The Penn State University Miner Training Program and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration are hosting a miners town hall meeting.

The meeting, open to the public, is geared toward enhancing every miner’s ability to survive an underground mining emergency through the appropriate use of refuge alternatives.

A panel of leading mine safety experts and mine operators will lead the discussion on mine refuge alternatives, and the floor will be open for questions.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety and four-time Super Bowl champion Mike Wagner will be at the meeting when it begins at 1 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel, 100 Sheraton Drive on Route 30 in Greensburg. Advance questions can be submitted to Dr. Mark C. Radomsky at mcr4@psu.edu by July 10.

Bridge closed for work until Dec.

The bridge that carries Route 819 over Jacobs Creek in Upper Tyrone Township will be closed and a detour will be in place starting Monday so that the bridge can be replaced.

A marked detour will be in place. The bridge is expected to reopen in December, the state Department of Transportation District 12 said.

The new bridge will be wider and the project will include minor road approach work. The project was let Dec. 17. The contractor on the $1.4 million project is Lane Construction Corp.

Route 119 road work complete

Single-lane traffic restrictions on Route 119 between Moyer Road and the Westmoreland County line in Bullskin and Upper Tyrone townships will be removed Friday.

The state Department of Transportation District 12 said motorists might encounter some daylight restrictions as the project wraps up.
