Monon Center seeking additional directors
The Monon Center, Inc., a focal point in Greensboro for the preservation and promotion of local history and traditional regional crafts, is searching for individuals to fill additional seats on its board of directors. A reorganized Monon Center resumed operations in the fall of 2009, re-establishing its original missions with a community center and museum, and plans to offer training in traditional crafts.
New board members will join the current board, which includes Courtney Dennis, Maggy Aston, Joyce Drew, Mary Shine, Ralph H. Jannini, chairman, Joseph Spiker, vice-chairman, James O’Connell, treasurer, and Lisa Miller, secretary.
The current board will select these new directors on the basis of their experience as it relates to the Monon Center mission, and their specialized skills in areas such as law, accounting, historical research, art, education, community planning, management and their prior involvement in community related organizations.
The Monon Center does not have a paid staff.
All directors and members are volunteers who share an interest in the region and its vibrant history. Evening meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month in the Greensboro area.
The center receives program and administrative support through donations, membership dues, grants and fund-raising events.
The Monon Center is a tax-exempt, nonprofit Pennsylvania corporation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Persons interested in supporting the mission of the Monon Center and in applying their skills to the development of the new center as a member of the board, may send a letter of interest and resume to The Monon Center, 444 Second Street, P.O. Box 411, Greensboro, Pa. 15338-0411.
Donations are always welcome, and may be tax deductible (consult a tax advisor). The Monon Center will soon announce a membership drive and other fund-raising initiatives to support development of the museum and educational activities.
