Moonlight and roses
Masontown news Dave Dahl and his orchestra will provide the music for the 31st anniversary of the monthly senior dance. The dance will be held on Monday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Uniontown VFW Post 47, W. Main St.
Kassie DeWalt and her team of volunteers will welcome those attending and provide refreshments and door prizes. Thanks go to Pete Porreca and the members of the VFW for their continued support.
Fourth of July celebration
Admission and all entertainment are all free for the annual Fourth of July celebration.
The schedule of events includes the following:
Noon, opening ceremonies – Flag-raising by Boy Scout Pack 654.
Noon to 4 p.m. – face-painting by “WHIM” (Wellness & Health In Masontown).
12:30 to 1 – Pet Parade (stage), six prize winners awarded.
12:30 to 1 – Baked Apple Pie Contest – $50 prize (contest tent).
12:30 to 5:30 – “Jelly Bean” The Clown (free balloons to all kids).
12:30 to 8:30 -Free rides – 26-inch slide, rock climbing, obstacle course, bounce house.
1:30 to 2:30 – Rotary races for kids, soccer field.
2 to 4 – Coloring contest, (ages 12 and younger) main pavilion, $25 prize.
2:15 to 2:30 – Register cake contest and floral contest entries (contest tent).
2:30 to 5:30 – Vote for decorated cake and floral entries (contest tent).
3 to 3:45 – Master magician Church Caputo (performance tent).
4 to 4:45 – Hoone’s Martial Arts Academy – Martial Arts Exhibition (stage).
5:30 to 8:30 – Free petting zoo and pony rides.
5:45 – Cake contest, $50 prize-winner announced (contest tent).
5:50 – Cake drawing – Cakes awarded to voters (contest tent).
6 – Floral Contest Winners Announced (contest tent).
6:05 – Floral entry drawing – Arrangements awarded to voters (contest tent).
6:30 to 7:30 – “Vibrations” Polka Hour and other favorites (stage).
7:45 to 9:45 – “Zig Zag” Classic Rock (performance tent).
9:45 to 10:15 – Fireworks. (Rain date for fireworks is July 11 at 9:45 p.m.)
All day – Dusty Joe spins records; large variety of food and game booths.
Additional parking is available at the Masontown Fire Hall, 221 N. Washington St.
Free shuttle service is available from noon to 10:30 p.m. between the fire hall and the park, courtesy of Floyd “Buster” Gladman.
To use the shuttle: Park at the Masontown Fire Hall. The shuttle will take you to the Exchange Club lemonade stand in the park.
To return to the fire hall, report to the Exchange Club Lemonade stand. The shuttle will be called for riders.
Cash bash/bingo
A cash bash/bingo will be held at the Footedale Volunteer Fire Department on Aug. 1 beginning at noon. The $30 admission will include a bingo package. Proceeds from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 724 892-2094.
Golf scramble
The Albert Gallatin Education Foundation will be holding its annual golf scramble on Aug. 14 at Springdale Golf Course. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 8. Monetary prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place teams along will door prizes and skill prizes.
Snacks and fruits will be available in the morning, refreshments will be offered at the turn and dinner will follow the round.
Registration fee is $240 per team or $60 per individual if pre-paid by Aug. 2. Make checks payable to Albert Gallatin Education Foundation, 2625 Morgantown Road, Uniontown. Registration and payment after Aug. 2 is $260 per team or $65 per individual.
Farmers’ Market
The Masontown Farmers’ Market will be held every Friday at the German-Masontown Park from 3 to 7 p.m. All local farmers are invited to bring their homegrown garden vegetables, herbs and fruits. There is no charge for this event in the park. Sellers are reminded to bring tables, chairs and tents for protection and comfort. Sellers must arrive by 2 p.m. for registration and set up. Your favorite baker, Patty Ball, will be there with all her wonderful baked goods.
All residents are asked to support this event to make it a success.
Spaghetti dinner
A spaghetti dinner will be held today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the All Saints Social Hall. Adult dinners are $7. Children meals are $3.50 for ages 3 to 12 and children under three may eat free. Takeouts are available. All proceeds benefit the Masontown July 4 Celebration.
WHIM Walk
The next WHIM (Wellness and Health in Masontown) walk will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Interested walkers should meet at the Parkvale Bank parking lot on Main Street. This walk will take place up Water Street and return down Main Street. There are no hills involved in this walk. People of all ages are encouraged to attend. You can set your own pace or walk with the group. Come get healthier in Masontown!
Basket giveaway
The Friends of the German-Masontown Library are holding a basket raffle at the library. Chances are 25 cents each or five for $1. An adult basket and a children’s basket are available. The sale of chances will be held during the remainder of June. A drawing for each basket will be held on Wednesday.
Masontown tax office
The Masontown tax office will be closed Tuesday due to vacation. Regular office hours will be held on Monday and Wednesday.
