By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

Golden LivingCenter-Uniontown held a graduation on June 11 for 13 residents who participated in the PEER (Pennsylvania’s Empowered Expert Residents) program. PEER is a program initiated in Pennsylvania where residents of long-term care facilities are trained to advocate for residents rights, quality of life and care issues within the facility.

These specially-trained residents are called PEERs and undergo 10 hours of specialized training in resident rights, self-resolution and the long-term care ombudsman program.

Graduates include Dorothy Blosser, Dorothy Fraley, Virginia K. Friend, Bertha Jane Hawkins, Elsie Henckel, Marcella Kovell, Catherine Latkovich, Virginia Marchelletta, Willie McKnight, Dorothy Myers, William Ross, Regis Shea and Carolyn Staycer.

Guest speakers at the graduation included Elizabeth A. Burgwin, ombudsman program supervisor and Leslie Grenfell, executive director of Southwestern PA Area Agency on Agency, Inc.; Joyce Hoch, executive director of Golden Living and Vincent Vicites, Fayette County commissioner.

The Rev. Roland O’Brien gave the invocation and the Rev. Gary McFadden gave the benediction.

Residents were presented certificates of appreciation from state Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Uniontown) and they were given graduation certificates, pins, signs and gifts.
