William Arthur Provance
William Arthur Provance, 88, of Hopwood, Pennsylvania passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 in Latrobe Hospital. He was born April 19, 1922 in Smithfield, Pennsylvania son of William Minor Provance and Mary (Britt) Provance.
William graduated from the former Georges High School, Class of 1940.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 with the 103rd Infantry Division, Special Services Intelligence Unit, and was a Life Member of the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47, Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
He was owner of Provance Transportation Company.
He had been a member of the Laurel Lodge No. 651 F. & A.M. in Uniontown.
He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Blanche Ellen Peake, Mary Frances Magie; and a brother, Lloyd Minor Provance.
Surviving are: his wife of 52 years, Claire “Dolly” Provance; three children: Dr. William J. Provance and wife Mary of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, James L. Provance of Dublin, Ohio, Cheryl Ann Provance, R.N., of Hopwood; three grandchildren: Brett W. Provance, Kyle E. Provance, Christian J. Provance; sisters: Ethel Mae Hawkins and husband Forrest of Morgantown, West Virginia and Shirley Ann Skapes of Strongsville, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jay Polowsky officiating
Interment follows in Saint John Vianney Parish Cemetery Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
AMVETS Post 103 Hopwood will conduct Military Services at the Funeral Home.
Visitation was also held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
