Nurses honored during Nurses Week, May 6-12
Nationwide, nurses are being recognized during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, for the integral role they play in saving lives and improving the quality of life for patients and families. Locally, Uniontown Hospital and Fayette Home Care & Hospice are honoring over 700 members of the Hospital’s Nursing Division and Fayette Home Care & Hospice.
“Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow” is the theme for this year’s celebration held in honor of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which nurses, the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care.
From bedside nursing in hospitals, home and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, clinical informatics, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.
Commenting on the celebration, Betty Ann Rock, vice president/CNO said, “We are proud to recognize our nursing division for the quality care they provide for Fayette County residents. In our healthcare system, nurses and their staff play an integral role in the prevention and wellness aspect of healthcare noted in the nationwide theme.”
In recognition of the homecare nursing staff, Vickie Leone, executive director of Fayette Home Care & Hospice, commented, “Our specialized staff meets the homecare needs of area residents from infants to octogenarians.
“Through a continuum of services, they expedite a smooth transition for patients from hospital to home.”
